Prabowo Orders Full Investigation into Train Accident at Bekasi Timur Station
President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has ordered a thorough investigation to probe the fatal accident between the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on the night of Monday, 27 April 2026.
“We will immediately conduct an investigation into how the incident occurred,” Prabowo stated to reporters after visiting collision victims at Bekasi City Hospital on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.
Prabowo then highlighted the numerous railway crossings lacking gates, describing them as highly dangerous and promising swift rectification.
In addition, the Bekasi City Government has proposed building a flyover at the railway crossing near the incident site.
“We will address this promptly; the Bekasi regional government has proposed constructing a flyover because Bekasi is densely populated and rail transport is vitally important. It is urgent, so I have already approved the immediate construction of the flyover with presidential assistance,” he said.
“Furthermore, in Java, there are 1,800 such crossing points dating back to the Dutch era, some decades old. We must resolve them immediately. I have also ordered that we repair all these crossings, whether by installing guard posts or building flyovers,” Prabowo concluded.
Previously reported, train services in the Bekasi Timur area, West Java, were disrupted following an incident on the platform at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night, 27 April 2026. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) confirmed that evacuation processes are still ongoing.
The incident occurred around 20:52 WIB at KM 28+920. It involved the PLB 5568A trainset (CL KPB–CKR), which was shunted by PLB 4B or the Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route.
As a result, train operations on that line were affected and experienced disruptions.
Manager of Public Relations for KAI’s Daop 1 Jakarta, Franoto Wibowo, extended apologies to passengers for the inconvenience.
“Currently, PT KAI, along with the police, is conducting the evacuation of the train consist and handling victims at the scene. We are striving to the maximum to restore normal train operations as soon as possible,” Franoto stated.
