Prabowo Orders Evaluation of Hundreds of Mining Permits Within a Week: Revoke Unclear IUPs
President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, to evaluate hundreds of mining business permits (IUP), especially those located in protected forests. Prabowo instructed Bahlil not to hesitate in revoking permits that are unclear.
This was revealed by Prabowo during a briefing at the Government Working Meeting (Raker) at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
“There are several hundred of these, this is for the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. If they are unclear, revoke them all,” Prabowo explained.
Prabowo stressed that there is no time to be lenient with naughty mining entrepreneurs. Even if they are friends or family. He added that the government only defends national and public interests.
“There is no time to be lenient. We only defend national interests and the interests of the people. The interests of friends, cronies, and family come second,” he said.
Prabowo also asked Bahlil how long it would take to evaluate all those IUPs. Bahlil replied that it would take about two weeks.
“Two weeks? Just one week to revoke all the IUPs. They must be in the hands of the state and we can then strengthen our institutions and agencies,” he said.
Bahlil expressed his readiness to carry out Prabowo’s orders.
