Prabowo Orders Construction of Decent Housing for Residents Along Railway Tracks
President Prabowo Subianto has instructed relevant officials to accelerate the construction of decent housing for residents living along the railway tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta. The directive was issued shortly after Prabowo personally inspected several homes along the tracks and engaged in dialogue with the community in Kramat Ward, Senen Subdistrict, on Thursday (26/03/2026). “President Prabowo directly ordered the Housing Minister via telephone, as he was in Toba, along with the Public Works Minister, the Director of Perumnas, and KAI (Kereta Api Indonesia), as well as several related officials, to build housing for residents still living along the railway tracks,” stated Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, quoted from the Setneg website on Sunday (29/3/2026). Teddy explained that the government has immediately mobilised initial steps to realise the construction of this housing. This swift response was taken after President Prabowo heard directly about the residents’ conditions, who have lived with limitations for decades in the area along the tracks with minimal facilities. “The President wants these residents to be provided with proper housing and sanitation facilities to occupy as soon as possible,” he clarified. This policy is formulated with a humanitarian approach, while ensuring that residents remain close to their social environment and sources of livelihood. The government hopes that this effort will not only provide safer housing but also promote an overall improvement in the community’s quality of life.
