Prabowo Orders Bulog to Procure 1 Million Tonnes of Farmers' Maize
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President Prabowo Subianto has issued Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 3/2026 on the Procurement and Management of Domestic Maize and the Distribution of Government Maize Reserves (CJP) for 2026-2029. Under this policy, Perum Bulog will carry out the procurement of domestic maize this year.
The regulation is also issued to support the strengthening of government maize reserves in order to enhance national food security and achieve maize self-sufficiency, as well as to increase farmers’ incomes.
“Taking coordinated and integrated steps in accordance with the respective duties, functions, and authorities to support the implementation of domestic maize procurement and management, as well as the distribution of government maize reserves,” states the First Dictum, quoted on Friday (17/4/2026).
The provisions for the implementation of domestic maize procurement in 2026 target at least one million tonnes.
The purchase price of maize from farmers is in accordance with the Government Purchase Price (HPP) for dry shelled maize with a moisture content between 18% and 20% at Rp 5,500 per kilogram, which has reached harvest age at the farmer level.
“The domestic maize procurement as referred to in point 1 shall be carried out by Perum Bulog based on the assignment in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws and regulations,” states the second point.
In addition, Perum Bulog will also process dry shelled maize in accordance with the quality standards of government maize reserves. The purchase of shelled maize will also be carried out at the HPP in accordance with the quality standards of the Government Maize Reserves.
However, the domestic maize procurement for 2027-2029 will be determined based on the food sector coordination meeting in the relevant year.
In the Inpres, the president also provides specific instructions to related ministries to enhance national food security. These directives are addressed to the Coordinating Minister for Food, Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Public Works, Minister of Defence, and the Head of BPKP.
