Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto has ordered shoes made by BRIN.

Arif wore the shoes ordered by Prabowo upon arriving at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, 6 August 2026. Some 150 BRIN researchers were gathered to present and showcase their products today.

“These are BRIN shoes, a local product. The President also ordered them, saying, ‘BRIN, please make something that can solve the shoe problem,’” Arif said.

Arif said the local shoes are produced by BRIN Serpong. He claimed the price of the shoes is below Rp80,000.

“These are all made from rubber, cheap, less than Rp80,000. See, they are light, good and cheap,” Arif said.

Arif said BRIN will seek industrial partners so that it can produce more of these local shoes, to then be marketed.

He explained that the shoes could also be used for students at Sekolah Rakyat schools.

“At the moment the price varies, depending on the motif and the material, around Rp75,000. There are also some above Rp100,000,” Arif said.

“Indeed, later we will aim to help Sekolah Rakyat,” he added.

It was previously reported that President Prabowo Subianto invited 150 BRIN researchers to present their research findings before him.

According to Arif, the various innovations presented focus on solving strategic problems that are of concern to the government, ranging from the environment to resource resilience.

“The waste problem, the giant sea wall problem, then also the water problem, the food problem, and other problems as well,” he said.

He then explained that there are several issues to be discussed with Prabowo, including food, energy and the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

“We presented the overall picture from the 12 clusters, namely the food issue, research on food, research on energy, research related to supporting our products for fishing villages, and our products for MBG,” he said.
