Prabowo Orders BGN to Rectify Non-Compliant SPPG Units
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to rectify Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi (SPPG) units running the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme that do not comply with technical guidelines or standard operating procedures. “The President has ordered that poor-quality kitchens or those not following the technical instructions be rectified,” said Deputy Head of BGN for Public Communication and Investigation, Nanik, after attending a government working meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026), quoted from Antara. Nanik also reported to Prabowo that BGN continues to temporarily close SPPG units that do not adhere to the guidelines, leading to extraordinary incidents (KLB), including cases where partners raise raw material prices and monopolise suppliers for personal gain. “So, if the children are from affluent families, they do not need MBG because their parents can already provide good nutritious food at home,” said Nanik. To this end, BGN will form a team to screen MBG recipients to ensure the programme is targeted correctly, so its distribution truly provides benefits and is not wasted. Prabowo also emphasised that the implementation of MBG should not be forced, especially for affluent community groups or schools that state they do not need the programme. According to him, a needs-based approach is key to making this programme truly effective in improving community nutrition quality, particularly for vulnerable groups. “We want to ensure MBG is targeted correctly and has a real impact. Therefore, we will continue to strengthen supervision and evaluation so that this programme runs optimally,” said Nanik.
