Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has ordered the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia to regulate hundreds of Mining Business Permits (IUPs) that are unclear. This is due to reports regarding illegal mining in protected forest areas.

He has asked Bahlil to immediately carry out a thorough evaluation of mining permits that are indicated to violate regulations. He emphasised that the government will not hesitate to revoke permits for companies that do not meet legal requirements in order to secure national interests.

“I have also ordered the Minister of ESDM, I received reports of hundreds of unclear mines or unclear IUPs in protected forests and forests,” he stated during the Government Working Meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/4/2026).

“I checked with the Minister of Forestry, I checked oh alhamdulillah this Minister of Forestry is okay too he hasn’t given he hasn’t given wood cutting permits or IPPKH alhamdulillah,” he added.

Prabowo has given Bahlil a one-week deadline to complete that evaluation report. The aim is to ensure that all problematic IUPs are revoked and returned to the state.

“Immediately evaluate ya if unclear revoke all those IUPs ya, revoke all of them, we no longer have time to be too pitying, no pity now ya,” he asserted.

In addition, Prabowo has also assured that no exceptions or defence of certain groups’ interests will be given in the process of regulating mining permits.

“We only defend national interests and the people’s interests. Friends’ interests, buddies’ interests, family interests, group interests, what number are they ya immediately evaluate how many days report back to me,” he concluded.
