President Prabowo Subianto summoned Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, 11 June 2026. The meeting addressed the acceleration of priority programmes in the education sector, including school revitalisation and the construction of Integrated National Schools. Abdul Mu’ti reported that the implementation of revitalisation in 2025 had achieved 100 per cent coverage, reaching 16,167 educational units across Indonesia. For 2026, the government has allocated a budget of Rp14 trillion, approved by the DPR, to revitalise 11,744 educational units and an additional 60,000 units, bringing the total number of educational units to be revitalised this year to 71,744 nationwide, across all levels from kindergarten to upper secondary school. “We also conveyed that this revitalisation programme is not only related to improving the quality of education, but our research also shows it has an economic impact because the system is self-managed, with construction carried out directly by each educational unit,” said Abdul Mu’ti. “We estimate there will be employment absorption at the regional level; those working on this revitalisation for the 71,744 units will number around 1.1 million people who can work over a period of between 3 and 8 months,” he continued. Abdul Mu’ti further stated that the school revitalisation programme has received a positive response from the community, especially in frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) regions. He noted that many schools which had not received infrastructure improvements for decades can now enjoy more adequate educational facilities. “We visit the regions, particularly 3T areas, and they are very grateful because, although by law the responsibility for construction lies with local governments, due to the President’s commitment to improving education quality, we are revitalising these schools, both public and private, and this is being carried out throughout Indonesia,” he explained. In addition to school revitalisation, Abdul Mu’ti reported on the progress of the Integrated National Schools programme, which is part of the government’s efforts to build a superior education ecosystem. Abdul Mu’ti said the Integrated National Schools are designed as non-boarding schools of excellence that will provide quality education services with integrated standards.
