Prabowo Opens Up About Facing Strong Resistance from Corrupt Groups
President Prabowo Subianto has revealed the achievements of his government in combating corruption, acknowledging that there is resistance from certain groups. “Brothers and sisters, we are grateful for the achievements we have produced in a short time. Despite resistance, resistance from many groups, especially the corruptors,” Prabowo said during the simultaneous inauguration of five dams in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Friday (10/7/2026). So exasperated was he that Prabowo candidly remarked, “Koruptor bajingan” (corruptors are scoundrels). “I must speak carefully, I must be polite, I cannot say corruptors are scoundrels, that is not allowed. It will be blown up. The president must speak politely, gently,” he said. During his speech, Prabowo also expressed his frustration when fighting corruptors. However, he assured that legal procedures remain paramount and that the law is enforced above all groups. “Sometimes I am grateful that I am retired. Sometimes when I face these thieving corruptors, it feels like… but we must follow legal procedures. We will carry them out, we will uphold the law, brothers and sisters. And the law is for everyone, not just for the strong, not just for the rich,” he asserted. On the occasion, Prabowo also urged the nation’s bureaucrats, including military, police, and prosecutor officials, to engage in self-reflection. “I ask that we introspect, especially the bureaucrats. I see many bureaucrats here. Bureaucrats, introspect, we all must introspect. Military and police officials, introspect. You belong to the people,” Prabowo said. He explained that bureaucrats and law enforcement officers belong to the people, including their ranks and the equipment they use to serve. “Your stars come from the people. Your shoes come from the people. Your caps come from the people. Never forget that. The same goes for the prosecutor’s office. Are you a prosecutor? You wear stars too. You also belong to the people,” he concluded.
