A meeting between Prabowo Subianto and a high-ranking security official from the People’s Republic of China has opened new opportunities for cooperation in the security sector amid increasingly complex global geopolitical dynamics.

In the meeting at the State Palace in Jakarta, the President received Chen Yixin, Minister of State Security of the PRC. The main agenda of the discussions centred on strengthening inter-country collaboration to maintain regional stability.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya revealed that the Chinese side is pushing for increased cross-border security cooperation as part of efforts to maintain global stability.

“Chen expressed the PRC’s hope to work together with friendly countries to build cooperation aimed at preserving and enhancing security stability in Asia and the world,” Teddy wrote, as quoted on Friday (27/3).

In response, Prabowo emphasised that regional stability is not merely a security issue but also an important foundation for Indonesia’s long-term economic growth.

“Welcoming the PRC’s hopes, President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s view on the importance of regional stability for supporting sustainable economic growth,” Teddy explained.

While opening opportunities for cooperation, the government emphasised the principle of mutual benefit as the basis for bilateral relations in this strategic sector.

“Furthermore, President Prabowo warmly welcomed the MSS’s hopes to enhance cooperation for the benefit of both countries,” he stated.

Looking ahead, one highlighted focus is strengthening partnerships between the intelligence agencies of the two countries, namely the Ministry of State Security (MSS) and the State Intelligence Agency (BIN). This step is said to be part of Indonesia’s strategy in responding to an increasingly multipolar world order.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of BIN, M. Herindra, marking the importance of intelligence issues in the direction of future cooperation.
