Prabowo Opens Door to Cabinet Reshuffle, PKB: The Priority is Solid Performance
President Prabowo Subianto has opened the possibility of reshuffling his cabinet ahead of the second anniversary of his administration. The National Awakening Party (PKB) has left the decision entirely to Prabowo.
“A cabinet reshuffle is entirely the President’s prerogative because the President understands the cabinet’s performance and is authorised to ensure the right man in the right place, as the President himself stated,” said PKB Central Executive Board Chairman Daniel Johan when contacted on Friday (18/9/2026).
Daniel Johan believes that the most important factor is that government performance becomes increasingly solid following any reshuffle. He added that priority programmes should continue to run effectively.
“The important thing is that government performance becomes more solid and priority programmes—including those touching the agriculture and fisheries sectors, food security, and public welfare—continue to progress so that the economy grows and jobs are created,” he said.
Possibility of Cabinet Reshuffle
Previously, President Prabowo did not rule out the possibility of conducting a cabinet reshuffle at the two-year mark of his administration. Prabowo believes that cabinet members should have had sufficient time to prove their performance.
This was stated by Prabowo during an interview on the ‘Prabowo Menjawab’ programme on Wednesday (16/9/2026), while responding to questions regarding the upcoming second anniversary of his administration. Prabowo was asked about his level of satisfaction with his ministers’ performance and the possibility of a reshuffle.
“So, it is like this: if I am evaluating continuously and objectively up to now, I must say that my team is working okay. However, I also tell my team, remember, much like a football team, there are starters, strikers, and substitutes. Therefore, I am focusing first because Indonesia’s problems are so complex; we must focus on the fundamentals,” Prabermowo replied.
Prabowo explained that there are several ministries that are, in terms of terminology, not at the ‘front line’. He noted that these ministers are working according to their capabilities and authority.
“So at this time, there are several ministries that are, so to speak, not at the front line, but they understand. And they work according to their own initiative,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo added that a cabinet reshuffle would be necessary to place the right people in the right positions. However, it could also be carried out if there are errors that require accountability.
“So, even if there is a reshuffle later, I think it might be, among other things, for the promotion of people; certainly, in this organisation, we are always looking for the right man in the right place, competence. And if someone is perhaps not suitable for that position, we must be able to replace them with the right person,” he said.
“Or if they themselves have problems, we cannot avoid that. For example, I might not know, and suddenly the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) comes to me and says, ‘Sir, this official is doing this, that, and that’. What can I do? ‘Do you have evidence? If you have evidence, please proceed,’ I say. If an incident occurs, it is the responsibility of my deputy minister,” he continued.
When asked if the two-year mark represents a momentum for either a change or an evaluation of cabinet members, Prabowo replied, “I think it is something logical. Two years, so each person has had time to prove their ability and so on.”
