Prabowo Opens Door to Cabinet Reshuffle, NasDem Responds
The NasDem Party has responded to statements by President Prabowo Subianto regarding the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle at the two-year milestone of his administration. NasDem stated that it does not believe it is entitled to occupy positions within Prabowo’s cabinet.
“Reshuffling the cabinet is the sole authority of the President; he knows best after evaluating all his assistants,” said NasDem Secretary-General Hermawi Taslim on Friday (18/07/2026).
Hermawi emphasised that NasDem will continue to provide full support to the Prabowo administration until 2029. Regarding the prospect of entering the cabinet, Hermawi stressed that NasDem wishes to provide a lesson in morality and ethics to the public.
“NasDem fully supports the Prabowo Government until the end of the term, particularly through its 2,200 legislative members spread from the central to the regency/city levels,” Hermawi stated.
“Regarding the opportunity to enter the cabinet, NasDem wants to provide a lesson in morality and ethics to the public, showing that NasDem feels it has no right to participate in the cabinet because NasDem did not ‘sweat’ during the presidential election process leading to President Prabowo’s election,” he added.
According to Hermawi, NasDem is striving to demonstrate itself as a party with integrity. For NasDem, he added, politics is not merely about power.
“NasDem wholeheartedly wants to show the public that it still maintains good ethics regarding what is appropriate and inappropriate. For NasDem, politics is not just about pursuing power and seats, but also about propriety and public ethics,” he concluded.
Prabowo’s Potential for Cabinet Reshuffle
Previously, President Prabowo stated that he is not ruling out a cabinet reshuffle at the two-year mark of his administration. Prabowo believes that cabinet members should have had sufficient time to prove their performance.
This was conveyed by Prabowo during an interview on the ‘Prabowo Menjawab’ programme on Wednesday (16/09/2026). When asked about his satisfaction with his ministers’ performance and the possibility of a reshuffle, the President addressed the matter.
“So, if I am evaluating continuously, and as of now objectively, I must say that my team is working well. However, I also tell my team, remember, like a football team, there are starters, strikers, and substitutes. I am focusing first because Indonesia’s problems are so complex; we must focus on the fundamentals,” Prabowo replied.
Prabowo explained that there are several ministries that are not currently at the ‘front line’. He noted that these ministers are working according to their respective abilities and authorities.
“At this time, there are several ministries that are, so to speak, not at the front line, but they understand. And they are working according to their own initiative,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo added that a cabinet reshuffle is necessary to place the right people in the right positions. However, he continued, it could also be carried out if there are errors that require accountability.
“So, if there is a reshuffle later, I think it would be, among other things, perhaps for promotions—we are always looking for ‘the right man in the right place’, for competence. And if someone is not suitable for a position, we must be able to replace them with the right person,” said Prabowo.
“Or if they themselves have problems, we cannot avoid that. For example, if the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) comes to me and says, ‘Sir, this official did this, that, and that’. What can I do? If they have evidence, please proceed. If an incident occurs, such as my Deputy Minister, that is his responsibility,” Prabulate continued.
When asked if the two-year mark serves as a logical momentum for evaluation or replacement, Prabowo replied, “I think it is something logical; after two years, each person has had time to prove their capabilities and so on.”
