President Prabowo Subianto has opened the possibility of reshuffling his cabinet as his administration approaches the two-year mark. The Secretary-General of the Golkar Party, Sarmuji, stated that the decision to reshuffle the cabinet rests entirely with the President.

“For Golkar, a cabinet reshuffle is the full authority of the President,” Sarmuji told reporters on Thursday (17/09/2026). Sarmuji believes that Prabowo has his own considerations regarding the needs of the cabinet, particularly in the effort to achieve his government’s targets.

“The President knows the needs of his team to be able to achieve the vision, mission, and targets that have been set,” he said. Sarmuji added that if any Golkar ministers are subject to evaluation and removed during a reshuffle, it is a consequence that must be accepted, emphasising that the party leaves all decisions to Prabulate.

“That is the consequence of surrendering everything to the President’s authority. However, I personally believe the President pays great attention to Golkar,” he noted.

Previously, President Prabowo did not rule out the possibility of a cabinet reshuffle at the two-year milestone of his administration. Prabowo believes that cabinet members should have had sufficient time to prove their performance.

This was stated by Prabowo during an interview on the ‘Prabowo Menjawab’ programme on Wednesday (16/09/2026), while responding to questions regarding his satisfaction with his ministers’ performance. When asked by Metro TV Deputy Editor-in-Chief Rivana Pratiwi whether he felt it was time for a large-scale evaluation or reshuffle, Prabowo responded by noting his continuous evaluation process.

“So, it is like this: if I evaluate continuously and objectively up to now, I must say that my team is working okay. But I also tell my team, remember, much like a football team, there are starters, strikers, and substitutes. I am focusing first because Indonesia’s problems are so complex; we must focus on the fundamentals,” Prabowo answered.

Prabowo explained that there are several ministries that are not currently at the ‘front line,’ noting that those ministers are working according to their abilities and authority. “So at this time, there are some ministries that are, so to speak, not at the front line, but they understand. And they work according to their own initiative,” he said.

Prabowo added that a cabinet reshuffle would be necessary to place the right people in the right positions, or if there are errors that require accountability. “So, if there is a reshuffle later, I think it might be, among other things, to promote people—we are always looking for ‘the right man in the right place’ and competence. And if someone is not suitable for a position, we must be able to replace them with the right person.”

He further noted that if an official faces personal issues or legal scrutiny, such changes would be unavoidable. “Or if they themselves have problems, we cannot avoid that. For example, I might not know, then suddenly the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) comes to me and says, ‘Sir, this official is doing this, that, and that.’ I would say, ‘Do you have evidence? If you have evidence, please proceed.’ If an incident occurs, such as with my Deputy Minister, that is his responsibility,” he continued.

When asked if the two-year mark represents a logical momentum for evaluation or replacement, Prabowo replied, “I think it is something logical. After two years, each person has had time to prove their abilities and so on.”
