Prabowo: One Day's Rainfall in Bogor Equals One Year's in Western Australia
President Prabowo Subianto has revealed that Indonesia’s water supply is extremely abundant. Even as the world experiences crises in energy and food, including water, such issues do not occur in Indonesia.
“This is proof that for decades, in black and white, the basic problems for a country are those three things (food, energy, and water crises),” Prabowo stated during a government working meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Prabowo continued that while the world faces crises such as water shortages, Indonesia actually has an excess. He gave the example that one day’s rainfall in Bogor is equivalent to one year’s rainfall in Western Australia.
“The problem is sometimes we have too much water; we laugh because this excess water is a blessing. One day’s rainfall in Bogor is the same as one year’s rainfall in Western Australia,” he explained.
However, when Indonesia experiences water crises, it is more due to human actions. Such as deforestation, failing to maintain ecological balance.
“Certain islands in eastern Indonesia still face water difficulties, but we can overcome them because the water is there. It’s just a matter of being able to access it and preserve it, because sometimes we ourselves fail to protect our environment—we cut down forests, we fell trees on mountains, as a result, water cannot be retained, leading to droughts, but these things can be addressed,” he emphasised.
