Prabowo on US-Iran War: We Hope the Worst-Case Scenario Does Not Occur in the Middle East
Jakarta, Kompas.com - President Prabowo Subianto has expressed hope that the worst-case scenario will not occur in the Middle East as a result of the conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran.
“We hope the worst-case scenario does not happen in the Middle East, but there are also many forecasts suggesting this could be a very long war, a very long war,” Prabowo said during a full cabinet session at the State Palace, Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, Friday (13 March 2026).
He stated that Indonesia must prepare itself for the possibility of the worst outcome. Indonesia cannot be complacent and must remain vigilant, despite currently feeling secure.
He requested that his officials study steps taken by Pakistan in addressing the possibility of the worst-case scenario.
“So I am asking for this to be discussed later by the Coordinating Ministers in perhaps a few days’ time. Let us think about it. We previously handled Covid-19, and we succeeded. And we were capable,” said Prabowo.
“For instance, some civil servants and officials need not go to the office, reducing traffic congestion and implementing major cost savings. We must also consider reducing working days and other cost-saving measures,” concluded Prabowo.
