President Prabowo Subianto claimed that the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace, held on Thursday 19 February 2026, would address efforts to achieve peace in Gaza, Palestine. Prabowo made the remarks at a business forum with the United States Chamber of Commerce in Washington, D.C.

Prabowo stated that he was present at the invitation of US President Donald John Trump to attend the Board of Peace summit. "This is the first official meeting of the Board of Peace to discuss the implementation and continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza. We continue to strive to pave the way towards a real and sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue," Prabowo said in the United States on Wednesday 18 February 2026 local time, as quoted from a statement by the Prabowo Media Team.

The head of state added that Indonesia consistently upholds the principle of an independent and active foreign policy. Indonesia, Prabowo said, does not align itself with any particular power bloc.

He also claimed that Indonesia actively participates in creating world peace. "We continue our non-aligned foreign policy, respecting all major powers. I am determined to pursue a 'Good Neighbour Policy'," Prabowo said.

Meanwhile, on Monday 16 February 2026, Foreign Minister Sugiono held a bilateral meeting with the Permanent Observer of Palestine to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, at the Palestinian Mission offices in New York, United States.

During the meeting, Sugiono expressed Indonesia's support for Palestine, its commitment to promoting just and sustainable peace, and emphasised the importance of realising a two-state solution.

Additionally, Sugiono conveyed plans for Prabowo's participation in the Board of Peace meeting in Washington D.C. alongside a number of world leaders, including nations comprising the "Group of 8" (Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan).

"The President of Indonesia's participation aims to ensure that every decision taken is in line with the UN Charter and existing multilateral efforts, in order to pave the way for just and sustainable peace," Sugiono said.
