Prabowo on Fuel: We Are Strong to Face This Coming Year

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia’s supply of fuel oil (BBM) is guaranteed to be safe for the coming year. This is because his administration has implemented several policies to control BBM consumption. “Some of these steps have already been announced, to control fuel consumption for this short term. The short term that I consider critical is this coming year,” Prabowo said during his briefing to members of the Merah Putih Cabinet at the Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday (8/4/2026), quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast. “After 12 months, we will be very strong. We will explain the steps later, but the point is that now we are ready, we are strong to face this year,” he added emphatically. This ensures that Indonesia has alternative sources of oil and gas to meet the needs of the population. “Besides having very strong domestic capabilities. There is a period that we must overcome together,” Prabowo said. Regarding a strait with a width of around 33-95 kilometres, Prabowo stated that the Strait of Hormuz determines global oil prices. “Now, the war in the Middle East proves that one strait, the Strait of Hormuz, determines the life of many nations, determines oil prices,” Prabowo said. According to him, Indonesia, with its vast maritime territory, has equally important potential like the Strait of Hormuz. “Are we aware that the Malacca Strait, Sunda Strait, Makassar Strait, and so on are Indonesian waters. Are we aware of how important Indonesia is, how key Indonesia is,” Prabowo said.
