Prabowo on Fuel Crisis: Many Countries in Panic, We Are Still Safe
Amid the extraordinary global crisis, with wars breaking out everywhere—Ukraine, Gaza, Iran—Prabowo stated in his speech at SMAN 1 Cilacap, Danon Village, Cilacap, Central Java, on Wednesday (28/4/2026). “We are grateful that Indonesia is in a good and peaceful condition. Many countries are already panicking, but our fuel situation is still under control; we are still relatively safe and strong. Our reserves are quite good,” Prabowo continued. Prabowo emphasised his commitment to working hard to achieve energy self-sufficiency. Based on his calculations, Indonesia will be able to achieve energy self-sufficiency in the next three years. “But next year it will be stronger, the year after that, I estimate—I am fighting for it, my ministers are working hard—we will achieve fuel self-sufficiency, energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia in the coming three years,” he said. He is confident that in three years’ time, Indonesia will no longer import fuel. Prabowo believes Indonesia is capable of processing its natural resources independently. “We are fighting so that in the coming three years we will no longer import fuel. Everything, all from Indonesia’s land and sea, processed by Indonesia’s sons and daughters,” he said. Previously, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, assured that the current domestic fuel supply is above standard. He reported this to President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (27/4). In that meeting, Bahlil emphasised that the national energy supply remains maintained, with the quality of diesel and petrol fuel above the national minimum standard. Even since the outbreak of the war between the United States (US) and Iran, he said the domestic fuel supply has remained stable. “Both in terms of fuel products, whether diesel or petrol. From all aspects, alhamdulillah, everything is above the national minimum standard. So alhamdulillah, it has been almost two months since the incident, the geopolitics in the Middle East regarding the Strait of Hormuz, we are still stable,” Bahlil said in a written statement from the Ministry of ESDM on Tuesday (28/4).
