Prabowo: Ojol Commission Cuts Must Be Below 10 Percent
President Prabowo Subianto has taken a firm stance on the burden of commission cuts long complained about by online motorcycle taxi (ojol) drivers. These cuts are known to be paid by ojol drivers to the app operators.
In his speech at the May Day commemoration held at Monas, Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026), Prabowo openly rejected the 20 percent contribution scheme implemented by app companies.
“Brothers and sisters, ojol. Ojol work hard, ojol risk their lives every day, ojol app companies demand a 20 percent contribution. How about it, ojol, agree to 20 percent?” Prabowo asked on Friday.
The question was immediately answered with a unanimous shout of “no” from the labour crowd.
“No,” the workers replied.
“How much? 10 percent? You want 10 percent? Yes?” Prabowo asked again.
However, in a surprising turn, the President stated that the cut should be below 10 percent.
“I say here, I do not agree with 10 percent,” said Prabowo.
“It must be below 10 percent,” Prabowo added, greeted with cheers from the crowd.
According to the President, it is unfair for ojol drivers who already work hard in the field to give a large portion of their profits to app owners.
Prabowo then issued a warning to technology companies that do not want to follow the government’s policy direction.
“If you don’t want to follow us, don’t do business in Indonesia,” said Prabowo.
It is known that the issue of ojol fare cuts by app operators is one of the 11 demands brought by the KSPI to the President.
In the ninth point of the demands, KSPI is advocating for the reduction of online motorcycle taxi fare cuts to 10 percent.
