Prabowo: Oil Lifting Must Rise, We Must Not Import a Single Barrel!

President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised the government’s plan to achieve energy self-sufficiency, including by increasing national oil lifting so that Indonesia no longer needs to depend on oil imports.

He made the remarks while officiating the groundbreaking of the 100 Gigawatt peak (GWp) Solar Power Plant programme at the Gilimanuk Operation Monument in Jembrana Regency, Bali, on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

In his speech, Prabowo said the 100 GWp solar programme is part of Indonesia’s effort to stand on its own feet and not depend on global geopolitical developments or conditions.

“With 100 Gigawatts, we will truly become a nation standing on our own feet. We will not fear any development in any part of the world,” Prabowo said.

According to him, Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency will be supported not only by solar energy but also by geothermal potential, natural gas, and increased national oil production.

Prabowo even set a target for Indonesia to stop importing oil as soon as possible.

“With the geothermal we have, with the gas fields we have discovered, with oil lifting that must keep rising, we must not import a single barrel of oil anymore!” Prabowo asserted.

Not only oil, Prabowo also targeted Indonesia’s ability to end its dependence on LPG imports. He asked Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to carry out the target.

“We must not import anymore, God willing, in the shortest possible time, not even a single LPG cylinder may we import again!” Prabowo said.

The statement was then put to Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, who was present on the occasion.

“Energy and Mineral Resources Minister? Ready! Able? Ready to carry out!” Prabowo said, mimicking Bahlil’s response.

Prabowo believes the energy self-sufficiency target can be achieved faster than expected. He is optimistic that the 100 GWp solar programme can be realised in less than three years.

“I believe perhaps in less than 3 years we will reach 100 Gigawatts,” he said.

He even asked his staff to achieve the energy self-sufficiency target within 2 years.

“Previously, for food self-sufficiency I gave a 4-year target; the economic team, the agriculture team, and the food team achieved it in 1 year,” he revealed.

“That means if I give a 3-year target to the energy team, no way — make it 2 years then. If they succeed in 2 years, the energy team gets another star, I will give them a decoration,” Prabowo said.
