Prabowo Offers Prayers for Virgo Ship Accident Victims, Ensures Investigation Will Take Place

President Prabowo Subianto has offered his prayers for the victims of the Virgo Transport 8 ship accident. Prabowo prayed that the families of the victims be granted fortitude in facing this tragedy.

“On this occasion, we certainly always remember our brothers and sisters who have experienced misfortune. The most recent being the Virgo ship in Banjarmasin,” said Prabowo at the Manggarai LRT Station, Jakarta, on Wednesday (16/09/2026).

Prabowo prayed for the victims of this accident, asking that the bereaved families be granted strength.

“We always pray that the families left behind are given fortitude and steadfastness,” he said.

He also ensured that an investigation would be conducted, as he believes such incidents can be mitigated.

“And we will continue to conduct an investigation, to investigate the cause of the incident so that in the future we can improve mitigation,” he stated.

He noted that many Indonesians are currently facing difficulties due to natural disasters, but assured that the government continues to work to address these challenges.

“Furthermore, many of our brothers and sisters in various places are experiencing difficulties due to the natural disasters they face, but the entire central and regional government—provinces, regencies, and all agencies—have proven to be working well together to face all challenges and difficulties,” he said.

For context, the Virgo Transport 8 was carrying 243 passengers and was reported to have lost contact in the Masalembo waters, Java Sea, on Sunday (13/09) at approximately 02:00 WITA, while sailing from Surabaya to Banjarmasin since Saturday (12/09). Several survivors have been evacuated.
