JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto extended Easter greetings to President Vladimir Putin and the entire Russian people during their discussions at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday (13/4/2026).

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the greeting was conveyed to honour religious traditions in Russia, where Orthodox Easter falls on 12 April, a day before the Prabowo-Putin meeting.

“The greeting was delivered as a form of respect for traditions and religious celebrations in Russia,” Teddy said in a press release on Tuesday (14/4/2026).

Putin reportedly viewed the greeting as having special meaning because Indonesia is the country with the largest Muslim population in the world.

“President Putin welcomed and greatly appreciated President Prabowo and was very pleased to hear the Easter greetings, as they came from the head of state with the world’s largest Muslim population,” Teddy said.

In that tradition, various religious celebrations are respected and celebrated together as part of national life.

“He conveyed that Russia is a multiconfessional country that adheres to various religions but still celebrates all religious holidays,” Teddy said.

Teddy noted that yesterday’s meeting demonstrated the increasing intensity of bilateral relations between the two leaders over the past year.

“President Prabowo and President Putin last met in December in Moscow and have met five times in various occasions over the past year,” he said.
