Prabowo Offers Condolences to Communities Affected by NTT Earthquake: We Will Continue to Help
President Prabowo Subianto has conveyed his condolences to all communities affected by the earthquake disaster in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). The condolences were delivered by Prabowo while inspecting a refugee post in Nagekeo, NTT, on Wednesday, 28 August 2026.
The Head of State inspected the evacuation post accompanied by a number of officials. Among them were Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Deputy Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Tandyo Budi Revita, Governor of NTT Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, Regent of Nagekeo Simplisius Donatus, Deputy Regent of Nagekeo Gonzalo Gratianus Muga Sada, and several other officials.
“I convey to all the people of Flores, the areas affected by the disaster, my condolences, to those who have lost their families,” said Prabowo.
The Head of State said his presence among the earthquake-affected communities was to ensure that all earthquake response measures were running optimally.
“I state that the central government is continuously monitoring and continuously taking steps to send aid, preparing everything to overcome this difficulty,” he said.
Prabowo said various measures and efforts were being continuously undertaken by the government to restore NTT after the earthquake. Teaching and learning activities will soon resume, temporarily held in tents.
“Perhaps for safety, schools may be in tents first. According to experts, we need to be patient, perhaps a maximum of three more weeks before everything is relatively safe,” he said.
In addition, Prabowo said the government will also build temporary housing alongside the repair of affected residents’ homes.
“So trust that the government will not abandon its own people. We are present and we will continue to help you,” he said.
