President Prabowo Subianto received a state visit from Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Prabowo conveyed his condolences over the passing of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who had been in a coma for several years.

The remarks were made during a bilateral meeting at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (8/3/2026), attended by PM Charnvirakul and Thai government delegates.

“Before we proceed, I would like to express our deepest condolences on behalf of Indonesia and myself personally to the Royal Family and the people of Thailand on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo also extended birthday greetings to King Maha Vajiralongkorn, wishing him continued blessings of health, happiness, and strength in leading the Kingdom of Thailand.

“I also wish to convey my warmest birthday greetings to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua. May His Majesty continue to be blessed with health, happiness, and strength in leading the Kingdom of Thailand,” he stated.

Prabowo noted that he has a strong personal relationship with the Thai King, recalling that they had built ties as fellow soldiers in their youth. “As you know, I have a very long personal relationship with His Majesty. We were both soldiers when we were young. So we have fond memories, and actually when we meet, it feels like old soldiers talking about the past,” he said.

PM Charnvirakul’s arrival at Merdeka Palace was marked by a state welcoming ceremony.
