Prabowo: No One Should Be Above the Law, Honest Citizens Must Feel Safe

President Prabowo Subianto has reminded authorities that there must be no criminalisation in law enforcement. Prabowo wants honest people in the Republic of Indonesia to feel safe under the prevailing law. He made the remarks during the commemoration of the 80th Bhayangkara Day in Cikeas, Bogor, on Wednesday (1/7/2026). Prabowo stressed that the law must be a protector of the people and must not be sharp downwards and blunt upwards. “Our country is a state of law. Therefore, we must uphold the law. The law must be respected and honoured. The law must be a protector of the people, the law must provide a sense of security to honest citizens. The law must be a refuge for the weak. The law must not be sharp downwards and blunt upwards,” Prabowo said in his speech. Prabowo said the law should not be used as a tool by those with money. He asserted that no one in Indonesia is immune to the law if they commit a wrongdoing. “The law must not become a tool for those who have money. The law must not become a tool for political revenge. The law must not be used for the interests of any one group,” Prabowo stated. “There must be no criminalisation. There must be no abuse of authority. And no one must be immune to the law,” he continued. Prabowo said the people must receive legal protection. The innocent must feel safe and the guilty must be held accountable for their actions. “I emphasise once again, the weakest people must receive protection. Communities seeking truth and justice must be served. Those who are innocent must feel safe. Those who are guilty must be held accountable for their actions,” he added.
