Prabowo: No Need to Mobilise the Public to Welcome Me
President Prabowo Subianto has asked regional heads not to mobilise residents to welcome his arrival during working visits. He said people should not have to wait in the scorching heat for him to arrive.
Prabowo conveyed this message at a mass handover ceremony for 62,000 subsidised homes in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday, 30 May 2026. “Once again, I ask governors and regents: when I come, there is no need to mobilise the people to welcome me,” he said in his speech, as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat.
The Chairman of the Gerindra Party said he genuinely enjoys meeting the public, including residents who welcome him during working visits. However, Prabowo said he feels sorry for those who must endure the heat by the roadside waiting for his arrival.
The former Defence Minister said what matters most is that he and his administration work wholeheartedly for the prosperity of the Indonesian people. “Just relax. What matters is that we work for the people, that is what is important. I am confident the people know that this government is working earnestly for the Indonesian people,” he said.
President Prabowo inaugurated the mass handover of 62,000 units of subsidised housing mortgages (KPR) and People’s Business Credit (KUR) for housing worth Rp 880 billion in the Puri Delta City Side Batang area, Batang Regency, Central Java Province, on Thursday.
The programme forms part of the government’s efforts to broaden access to decent housing for low-income communities while strengthening financing for the national housing sector.
On the occasion, the President also held a dialogue via video conference with several debtor representatives from various regions participating in the simultaneous mass handover.
In his remarks, Prabowo expressed gratitude for the mass handover ceremony held simultaneously across various parts of Indonesia. He said the programme is part of the government’s commitment to expanding people’s access to decent home ownership.
“We want all Indonesian citizens to be able to own decent homes,” said Prabowo.
