President Prabowo Subianto stated that no other nation would sympathise with Indonesia if its people faced hardship. The Head of State made the remarks while presiding over the Pancasila Day ceremony on Monday, June 1, 2026.

In his address, Prabowo stated that Indonesia should not become a nation dependent on other countries. “No other nation will feel sympathy for us,” Prabowo said at the Pancasila Building Field on Jalan Taman Pejambon, Jakarta, on Monday morning.

The former Defence Minister added, “If our people are hungry or in difficulty, no other nation or power will feel sympathy or come to our aid.”

Prabowo emphasised that his administration must not leave future generations with short-term conveniences at the expense of their long-term future. For the former Defence Minister, no country is truly independent without prosperity.

He then referenced President Sukarno’s ideas on national self-reliance to avoid dependence on others. “As our founding father and proclaimer, Bung Karno once advised us to have the courage to stand on our own feet. That is the essence of a sovereign nation,” Prabowo said.

At the same event, the chairman of Gerindra Party also urged the public to honestly assess Indonesia’s current situation.

He stated that Indonesia’s economy has grown over the past few decades, but Prabowo believes the benefits have not been fairly distributed among all citizens. “Over the past few decades, Indonesia’s economy has indeed grown. But has this growth been equitable, felt fairly by all Indonesians?” Prabowo said. “Let us honestly face the reality we confront today.”

Prabowo noted Indonesia’s abundant natural resources, stating it is one of the world’s largest producers of key commodities needed by modern economies. “However, we must acknowledge that our wealth has not been fully utilised for the people’s prosperity for too long,” he said.
