Prabowo: No Country Can Survive Without Food Security
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that food security is a primary factor determining the sustainability of a nation. According to him, no country can survive without a secure and continuous food production system. “I have studied history, I have studied state governance, and what I have learned is that it is impossible for a country to survive without a smooth, secure, and continuous food production system,” Prabowo said during a speech at the simultaneous corn harvest event and the groundbreaking ceremony for the Indonesian National Police’s food security warehouse in East Java, Saturday (16/5/2026). Therefore, he believes that state apparatus must work hard to maintain stability so that the community feels safe and food needs are met. “The security and orderliness of a country are largely determined by food,” Prabowo explained. “When the state apparatus, the military and the police, function smoothly and securely, it is considered normal. But when things go wrong, they are criticised. That is the fate of the state apparatus, the fate of public servants,” Prabowo said. “It’s okay, that’s our job. Therefore, we must work hard so that everything is safe, orderly, and smooth,” he added. Prabowo then admitted that he does not have many academic degrees. However, he affirmed that he continues to learn about history and state governance. “I don’t have many degrees, I don’t have high degrees. I’m just someone who likes to learn,” Prabowo concluded. According to Sigit, the Indonesian National Police has currently built 18 food storage warehouses in 12 provinces. On the same day, the Indonesian National Police also began the simultaneous construction of 10 new food security warehouses.
