Prabowo: Natural Resources Must Serve the People, Not a Privileged Few

President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has asserted that the nation’s wealth must be used for the prosperity of the people and not be enjoyed by a select few.

This mandate, Prabowo said, represents the aspirations of the nation’s founders since Indonesia gained independence 81 years ago, in pursuit of justice and prosperity for the people.

“Eighty-one years ago, the nation’s founders had an ideal: an Indonesia that is sovereign, just, and prosperous. An Indonesia whose wealth must be used to the greatest extent for the prosperity of the people and must not be enjoyed only by a select few,” he said at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives and the Regional Representatives Council in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2026).

Prabowo said that he accepted the mandate as President of Indonesia to solve the people’s problems, not the other way around.

“I accepted the mandate from the people precisely to solve problems and overcome the people’s difficulties,” he stressed.

“We choose to make difficult decisions today rather than bequeath even heavier and more complicated problems to our future generations,” he continued.

Prabowo also emphasised that the independence proclaimed 81 years ago must be felt by all Indonesian people.
