Prabowo: National Security is the Foundation for Indonesia's Major Transformation
President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that the success of Indonesia’s major transformation depends on security stability and public trust in the Indonesian National Police (Polri). Speaking at the 80th Bhayangkara Day ceremony in Bogor Regency on Wednesday, the President stated that security should not be interpreted merely as the absence of crime, but as a condition that allows people to carry out their activities and for development to proceed without fear. “Security does not only mean the absence of crime; security means the people are free to work, farmers dare to plant, fishermen dare to go to sea, entrepreneurs dare to invest, teachers are calm in teaching, children are calm in learning, and the community can worship peacefully according to their respective religions and beliefs, in a harmonious atmosphere, in an atmosphere full of tolerance,” Prabowo said. He expressed gratitude for the national security stability that has been maintained amidst various challenges. According to him, every effort towards national revival is always accompanied by obstacles, but Indonesia has the capital to continue progressing into a strong, modern, and prosperous country based on justice. On the occasion, Prabowo also appreciated the synergy between Polri, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), ministries, local governments, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and all stakeholders in maintaining security during national moments such as Christmas, New Year, and Idulfitri. He noted that this success has provided a sense of safety for millions of people to travel and gather with their families, while also reducing traffic accidents and improving public services. However, the President reminded that future challenges for security forces will be increasingly heavy. He noted that global conflicts and tensions have domestic impacts, while technological advancements open up opportunities for new forms of crime. “Our challenges are not getting lighter; the world is full of conflict and tension. Wars in one part of the globe affect us. Crime is also becoming more sophisticated and constantly changing. Threats evolve, and technology can also be used with malicious intent. Therefore, our working methods must also adapt,” Prabowo stated. He emphasised the importance of Polri continuously adapting to strategic environmental changes and technological developments to maintain national security stability and provide more effective protection to the public.
