Prabowo Must Voice Palestinian Protection at BoP Meeting: Lawmaker
According to him, stability and security are key prerequisites for a sustainable peace process for the people of Gaza, Palestine.
“The government can use this momentum to affirm Indonesia’s position as a nation that consistently fights for peace, justice, and humanity,” Sukamta remarked on Monday.
He also asked the government to reaffirm Indonesia’s support for full Palestinian independence through a two-state solution that is just, dignified, and in accordance with international law.
He emphasised that the forum must be a space to strengthen this commitment.
Furthermore, Indonesia needs to ensure that every post-conflict reconstruction and recovery agenda is in line with respect for the rights of the Palestinian people and the principle of sovereignty. A solid peace must be built on justice, not merely a temporary cessation of conflict, Sukamta said.
In addition, President Prabowo Subianto’s presence at the Board of Peace forum should be seen as an opportunity to strengthen his active role in promoting world peace, as mandated by the constitution.
“Every step of our diplomacy must be based on Indonesia’s national interests and consistent with our historical commitment to the Palestinian struggle for independence,” Sukamta pointed out.
He stated that Indonesia’s participation in the forum is part of active diplomacy and a real contribution to creating a more stable and just world order.
“From a national interest perspective, global stability based on international law also has a direct impact on Indonesia’s security and interests,” he added.
On Monday, President Prabowo and his entourage departed from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, for a working visit to Washington DC, the United States.
The President is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump to discuss strengthening Indonesia-US relations and strategic cooperation across various sectors and to attend the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace.
