President Prabowo Subianto held another limited meeting regarding disaster management via hybrid video conference from the Merdeka Palace today. The meeting specifically addressed the latest developments regarding forest and land fires (karhutla) in several regions of Kalimantan and Sumatra.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya opened the meeting by stating that Prabowo wished to obtain the latest reports on the condition of the forest fires, particularly in West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, as well as the overall progress of management efforts in Kalimantan and Sumatra.

“This afternoon, the President requested the latest report from the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) regarding the condition of forest and land fires in Kalimantan, specifically West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan, as well as Kalimantan as a whole, and also in Sumatra,” said Teddy, as quoted by the Presidential Secretariat Bureau on Wednesday (23/9/2026).

During the meeting, the Head of the BNPB, Suharyanto, reported on the progress of fire management in Sumatra and Kalimantan. As of Wednesday afternoon, 209.78 hectares of land remain in the process of being extinguished by teams on the ground.

“We report that as of today, 209.78 hectares are still being actively extinguished. We are monitoring this daily to ensure that the area being put out each day remains significant,” Suharyanto stated.

The government continues to intensify various efforts to resolve these forest fires, including massive weather modification operations (OMC). Suharyanto noted that these weather modification efforts will continue at least until the rainy season returns to normal.

In addition to Teddy, Prabowo was accompanied by the Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi. Meanwhile, the Head of the BNPB, Suharyanto, and the Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Teuku Faisal Fathani, delivered their reports from their respective locations via video conference.
