Prabowo Misses Demokrat Iftar, AHY: He Is Feeling Unwell
President Prabowo Subianto was unable to attend the Demokrat Party’s iftar held in the Tanah Abang area of Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 March 2026. The Democratic Party’s General Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono said Prabowo was initially scheduled to attend, but he was apparently not well.
“Actually we did invite Mr President Prabowo Subianto who was supposed to attend, but he is feeling unwell and of course we wish him a swift recovery,” AHY said.
In the event, the host also conveyed Prabowo’s apologies. AHY said he understood Prabowo’s condition, noting the President had just completed a series of foreign trips and had a busy schedule.
AHY explained that the spirit of this Demokrat iftar reflected the global geopolitical situation. It is known that the situation in the Middle East is heating up after the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran.
“It is for this reason that this time we specially invited ambassadors and the diplomatic corps from friendly Muslim countries, who are all closely following developments in the Middle East,” AHY said.
He added that Indonesia needs to anticipate wars that have escalated recently. Demokrat, he said, believes Indonesia can play a part in ensuring world peace. “However, we know that the situation is not easy,” he said.
Therefore, according to AHY, President Prabowo has invited various national figures to consider what has happened and what will happen. Prabowo had invited presidents, vice presidents, and former foreign ministers as well as party leaders in parliament to discuss the current global situation.
AHY said Indonesia must anticipate various worst-case scenarios regarding the impact of the US-Israel-Iran conflict. “For example, when tensions continue and spread in the Middle East, including the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital global energy route, this will have certain impacts on our economy,” the Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development said.
He added that Indonesia needs to ensure that conflicts among Gulf states do not disrupt domestic energy and food security. “And Indonesia can still focus on development agendas including in the infrastructure sector,” he said.
