Prabowo: Military and Police Personnel Need Good Salaries

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that members of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) need good salaries. According to the Head of State, decent wages for soldiers and police officers can prevent them from engaging in extortion against the people. Prabowo’s statement regarding salaries was not only directed at the TNI and Polri. He mentioned that other professions, such as educators and healthcare workers, also require adequate pay. “Teachers need good salaries, doctors and nurses need good salaries, soldiers and police need good salaries so they do not extort the people,” Prabowo said during his speech at the peak event of National Cooperatives Day in Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday, 12 July 2026. He added, “Civil servants need good salaries so they do not engage in corruption.” On that occasion, Prabowo also issued a warning to corruptors to stop stealing the people’s money. The Gerindra Party Chairman asked those who commit corruption to come to their senses. “For the umpteenth time, I have been saying this for a long time. Hey, corruptors, come to your senses. Stop your practices, stop it,” he said. Prabowo emphasised that the Indonesian people are not stupid, even though they are forgiving. “Return the people’s wealth, return it properly. We are a forgiving nation, but the people need justice, the people need prosperity,” Prabowo stated.
