Prabowo-Megawati Meeting Sends Positive Signal for the Government
The meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and the Fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, at the Palace sends a positive signal for the consolidation of the current government.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and the Fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, at the Palace provides a positive signal for the consolidation of the current government.
“The meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and PDI-P General Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri at the State Palace is a positive development for the consolidation of the Prabowo-Gibran government,” said Achmad Baidowi, a lecturer in Government Studies at the Darul Ulum Banyuanyar Institute (IDB), in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
Awiek, as Achmad Baidowi is affectionately known, described the meeting as a substitute for Megawati’s absence from President Prabowo’s earlier gathering with former presidents and vice presidents.
According to him, Megawati’s presence could dispel the perception that the party she leads would become a “disruption” to the Prabowo-Gibran government, following previous criticisms from the party against the MBG programme and even prohibiting its members from participating in it.
Furthermore, he stated, the meeting between the two national figures further strengthens the stability of the Prabowo-Gibran government amid issues of Middle East conflict and Indonesia’s membership in the Board of Peace (BoP).
“Only with a strong government stability will the president have the leeway to successfully implement national and state development agendas,” he said.
The Chairman of the Organisational Division of the Association of Doctoral Alumni in Government Studies IPDN (IKADIP) added that the key point of the meeting emphasises that unity is essential for achieving development.
“Political differences were settled during the election; thereafter, as the government runs, political barriers must be eliminated,” Awiek remarked.
On Thursday (19/3), President Prabowo Subianto received the Fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, attended by House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani and Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.
Based on the official Instagram post of President Prabowo (@prabowo), the meeting was held to continue fostering relations among national leaders.
“On the 29th day of Ramadan ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received the Fifth President of Indonesia, Ibu Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. This meeting continues the fostering of relations among national leaders,” the post read.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the forum would discuss various strategic issues, both in the national and global contexts.
The President, according to the Cabinet Secretary, wishes to directly absorb views, experiences, and input from national figures to enrich perspectives and strengthen the direction of future government policies.
“The President wants to exchange views with those figures,” the Cabinet Secretary said.
