Prabowo–Megawati Meeting Discusses Strategic Issues and Global Geopolitics
Jakarta (ANTARA) - General Secretary of PDI Perjuangan Hasto Kristiyanto stated that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri discussed various strategic national issues up to the dynamics of global geopolitics.
Hasto, in a written statement in Jakarta on Thursday, confirmed that the meeting took place at Merdeka Palace today, with Megawati accompanied by Puan Maharani.
“It is true that today, Thursday, 19 March 2026, a meeting was held between the two leaders, President Prabowo Subianto and Mrs Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. In that meeting, Mrs Megawati was accompanied by Ms Puan Maharani,” said Hasto.
According to him, Megawati conveyed that the meeting took place in a friendly atmosphere as a gathering between two long-time acquaintances.
“Mrs Megawati told me that it was a meeting of old friends and took place amicably for more than two hours,” he said.
Hasto explained that in the meeting, the two figures discussed strategic issues related to national and state matters, including global geopolitical challenges faced by Indonesia.
“In the meeting of the two leaders, strategic matters concerning the nation and state were discussed, as well as various geopolitical issues,” he said.
He added that Megawati’s experience as president in facing multidimensional crises was also part of the discussion, particularly regarding policy approaches that emphasise a sense of priority and sense of urgency.
In addition, continued Hasto, the discussion also covered Indonesia’s role in the global arena, including its pioneering history in the Asian-African Conference and the Non-Aligned Movement, as well as the principle of free and active foreign policy.
On that occasion, Megawati also recounted her most recent visit to the Middle East region, including to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
Hasto emphasised that PDI Perjuangan views meetings between national leaders as part of the tradition of dialogue and deliberation that reflects the values of mutual cooperation.
“PDI Perjuangan asserts that the Indonesian nation has a spirit of mutual cooperation, so meetings between national leaders as occurred with President Prabowo and the 5th President Megawati Soekarnoputri, besides being in accordance with the nation’s culture, are intended for mutual dialogue and deliberation, also for the interests of the people, nation, and state,” said Hasto.
