Prabowo Meets Victims of Bekasi Timur Train Incident, Promises Thorough Investigation

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Prabowo Subianto met with the victims of the accident who were being treated at Bekasi City General Hospital on Tuesday morning (28/4/2026). The visit was conducted alongside the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, and the President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), Bobby Rasyidin. Prabowo ensured that the handling of the victims was proceeding optimally. The government is also pushing for a thorough investigation. “I extend my condolences on behalf of myself and the Government. We will immediately conduct an investigation to determine the cause of this incident,” said President Prabowo. The President also highlighted transportation safety. Level crossings were assessed as still posing high risks. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi assured that the evacuation was proceeding quickly and in a coordinated manner. The process was carried out with caution. The team from the Directorate General of Railways and PT Kereta Api Indonesia has been at the site since Monday night (27/4/2026). The handling was directly led in the field. Dudy conveyed condolences to the deceased victims. He hoped the injured victims would recover soon. “We wish to extend our deepest condolences to the deceased victims. Then, to the injured victims, we hope they will soon be granted recovery,” said Dudy. “This train accident serves as a very important lesson for PT KAI and us, on how to provide the best service to the public, but also to ensure a sense of safety and comfort, and most importantly, safety for passengers,” Dudy continued. The KRL train series was then evacuated. The journey was designated as an Extraordinary Journey with code 5181. Officers also stopped another KRL with code PLB 5568 at Bekasi Timur Station. This train was heading to Cikarang. The Argo Bromo Anggrek train on the Jakarta–Surabaya route did not have time to stop fully. That train was involved in the incident with the stationary KA PLB 5568.
