Prabowo Meets Rosatom Executives at the Palace
President Prabowo Subianto received representatives from Rosatom, Russia’s state-owned company operating in the nuclear energy and construction sectors. During the meeting, Rosatom’s Director General Alexey Likhachev explained cooperation between the two countries in the nuclear energy sector. Both parties discussed promising areas of Russia-Indonesia cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, such as developing nuclear power projects, nuclear infrastructure, personnel training, and nuclear technology applications beyond the energy sector. “Currently, Indonesia has set ambitious goals for nuclear energy development, and therefore we are not only discussing technology, but also forming long-term partnerships focused on developing new industries for the country, national personnel training, emerging new competencies, and strengthening the country’s technological sovereignty,” said Alexey in an official statement on Tuesday (12/5/2026). Alexey also stated readiness to offer a comprehensive approach to Indonesia for developing its national nuclear programme, including large-scale nuclear power and projects involving small modular reactors and floating power units. The parties also paid special attention to integrating nuclear energy into Indonesia’s electricity system, considering the specifics of the archipelagic country. The meeting was attended by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria, President Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo, and parliamentary representatives.
