Prabowo Meets Putin, Foreign Minister Highlights Efforts to Strengthen National Energy Resilience
Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed that energy sector cooperation was one of the key topics discussed between President Prabowo and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace. Through this cooperation with Russia, Indonesia hopes to strengthen its national energy resilience. “The most important thing is cooperation in the energy sector, which is expected to be part of strengthening national energy resilience,” Sugiono stated, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube broadcast on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Geopolitical developments were also among the topics discussed between Prabowo and Putin at the Kremlin Palace. “In addition to the bilateral meeting, a tete-a-tete lunch format meeting was also held, which discussed several matters related to geopolitical developments that are a concern for both countries,” Sugiono said. “Several future plans were also made regarding strengthening economic relations between the two countries and people-to-people relations between Russia and Indonesia,” Sugiono added. President Prabowo Subianto stated that several strategic cooperations between Indonesia and Russia, which were previously agreed upon, have experienced rapid progress. This positive development was conveyed by Prabowo in front of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday (13/4/2026) local time. “Almost all fields that we agreed on a few months ago have experienced rapid progress,” Prabowo said, quoted from the statement of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom), on Monday. From that meeting, Prabowo revealed that productive discussions had taken place between the two parties. “I just met with several Russian officials and some Russian companies. I am very grateful because the discussions were very productive,” Prabowo said. Nevertheless, he stated that there are still several matters that need to be accelerated and will receive his direct attention. “There are one or two that we need to accelerate; I will handle them myself soon,” Prabowo said. Putin was also pleased with the bilateral meeting with Prabowo, which he described as very substantive. “Some time ago, we received a declaration regarding strategic partnership. I am very pleased that we are taking steps that give meaningful and substantial content to the relations between the two countries,” Putin said.
