Prabowo Meets President Putin to Consult on Geopolitical Situation
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto consulted on the geopolitical situation during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Prabowo assessed that consultations with world leaders are essential in addressing the uncertain geopolitical environment. “We feel it is very necessary to consult on how we face the situation ahead, especially if we can continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and energy,” Prabowo stated to Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday (13/4/2026) local time, quoted from a statement by the Indonesian Government’s Communication Agency (Bakom). On that occasion, he also hoped that Indonesia and Russia could continue to enhance strategic cooperation amid the current geopolitical situation. Prabowo also expressed appreciation to Putin for receiving his visit. “Thank you, Your Excellency President Putin, I am the one who is grateful because I was received on such short notice. But amid your busy schedule, you could receive me, I am very grateful,” Prabowo said. According to him, Indonesia’s membership in BRICS will open new opportunities to develop strategic cooperation. “Indonesia has become a member of BRICS. This opens new opportunities to develop cooperation,” Putin said. He revealed that trade between Russia and Indonesia increased by 12% in 2025 and hopes for commitments to further increases. “We hope that in today’s meeting, Your Excellency, we can find various solutions to continue enhancing the partnership between the two countries,” Putin stated. “Some time ago, we received a declaration on strategic partnership. I am very pleased that we are taking steps that give significant meaning and substance to the relations between the two countries,” Putin added.
