The Chairperson of the PDIP Central Executive Board, Puan Maharani, has assessed the meeting between President Prabowo Subramaniyo and the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, as a familial gathering that is “far from sight, but close at heart.”

According to her, the meeting between the two figures was filled with intimacy. Given that the two leaders have met, the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) requested that no parties attempt to create division or suggest that the two are not on good terms.

“The essence is that we remain like family, far from sight, but always close at heart,” said Puan after presiding over a plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 29 September 2026.

She explained that the President visited Megawati’s residence on Jalan Teuku Umar, Jakarta, on Monday (28/9), to offer condolences following the passing of Guruh Soekarnoputra. The President was reportedly unable to attend the late Guruh’s funeral.

In addition to the condolences, Puan noted that Prabowo and Megawati also engaged in discussions regarding the nation and the state. Ultimately, the meeting was characterised by a spirit of kinship.

“From the photographs, it is evident that they are very close,” said Puan.

Guruh Soekarnoputra was the youngest son of Indonesia’s first President, Soekarno, and the younger brother of Megawati.

During the visit, Prabowo expressed his condolences and respect to the bereaved family. In addition to Megawati and Prabowo, the meeting was also attended by Puan Maharani, Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Chairman of the DPR RI Budget Committee Said Abdullah, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
