Prabowo Meets Megawati at the Palace: Continuing the Bonds of Fellowship

President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from Indonesia’s fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace on Thursday (19/3). Prabowo shared details of the visit through a social media post.

In the post, Megawati was seen accompanied by her daughter, Puan Maharani. Prabowo was joined by his son, Didit Hediprasetyo, and Gerindra’s daily chairman as well as Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

“On the 29th day of Ramadan, approaching Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received the fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ibu Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace,” wrote Prabowo Subianto as the caption for the post.

“This meeting continues the bonds of fellowship among the nation’s leaders.”

In several photos uploaded, Prabowo Subianto was seen holding Megawati’s hand and walking as they entered Merdeka Palace.

The pair, along with their respective children, then conversed in the central area of the palace. In another photo, the leaders were seated and chatting, accompanied by Puan and Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

Prabowo was later seen holding Megawati’s hand again, as if assisting her down the stairs. He and Didit escorted Megawati and Puan to their car before they left Merdeka Palace.

The moment was posted by Prabowo a few hours after news of the meeting between Prabowo Subianto and Megawati Soekarnoputri ahead of Eid 2026 had gone viral.

A source indicated that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati lasted quite long, around two hours, discussing several comprehensive yet warm matters.

“It started about an hour or two ago,” the source said.

“Clearly, this is proof that the statesman president can receive national figures who are not even from coalition parties,” the source added.
