Prabowo Meets Megawati at the Palace, Content of Their Discussion Revealed

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto met with the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri at Merdeka Palace on Thursday (19/3/2026). The moment was uploaded to the @prabowo account managed by the media team.

“On the 29th day of Ramadan ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mrs Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. This meeting continues the bonds of friendship among the nation’s leaders,” read the photo caption, quoted on Sunday (22/3/2026).

During the meeting, Prabowo was seen personally welcoming Megawati on the palace terrace. Megawati was wearing a blue batik and was escorted by Prabowo as they descended the steps.

Also present on that occasion were House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani, Deputy House Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Didit Hediprasetyo, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.

Teddy explained that the meeting took place in a warm and familial atmosphere, as part of the bonds of friendship ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Additionally, this meeting also reflects the values of togetherness and unity among the nation’s leaders.

“The two national leaders engaged in familial bonds of friendship ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H,” said Teddy, quoting the official statement.

From a written statement, General Secretary of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board, Hasto Kristiyanto, explained that the meeting between the “old friends” took place amicably for more than 2 hours. The topics discussed related to strategic issues of the nation and state, as well as geopolitical matters.

“Mrs Megawati’s extensive experience, especially as the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia who was able to resolve multidimensional crises, including various policy approaches that always emphasised the importance of a sense of priority and sense of urgency, was one of the things discussed in that meeting,” read the statement.

“Likewise, regarding geopolitical issues, particularly Indonesia’s pioneering role in the Asian-African Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement, and various important roles in building a new world order through an active independent foreign policy. On that excellent occasion, Mrs Megawati also recounted her most recent visit to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia,” it added.

Furthermore, according to Hasto, the meeting was also intended for the interests of the people and the nation. Upholding the spirit of gotong royong and engaging in dialogue in accordance with the nation’s culture.
