Prabowo Meets Megawati at Merdeka Palace, Hasto Reveals Discussion Topics
President Prabowo Subianto received the Fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace on Thursday (19/3/2026). The moment was uploaded to the @prabowo account managed by the media team.
“On the 29th day of Ramadan ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, I received the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ibu Hj. Megawati Soekarnoputri, at Merdeka Palace. This meeting continues the silaturahmi among national leaders,” read the photo caption.
During the meeting, Prabowo was seen personally welcoming Megawati on the palace terrace. Megawati was wearing a blue batik and was escorted by Prabowo as they descended the steps.
Also present on that occasion were House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani, Deputy House Speakers Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Didit Hediprasetyo, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Minister for State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
Teddy explained that the meeting took place in a warm and familial atmosphere, as part of silaturahmi ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Additionally, the meeting reflected values of togetherness and unity among national leaders.
“The two national leaders engaged in familial silaturahmi ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H,” said Teddy, quoting an official statement.
According to a written statement, Hasto Kristiyanto, General Secretary of the PDI Perjuangan Central Executive Board, explained that the meeting between the “old friends” was intimate and lasted more than two hours. The topics discussed included strategic issues of the nation and state, as well as geopolitical matters.
“Ibu Megawati’s extensive experience, particularly as the Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia who managed to resolve multidimensional crises, including various policy approaches that always emphasised the importance of sense of priority and sense of urgency, was one of the things discussed in the meeting,” read the statement.
“Likewise, regarding geopolitical issues, especially Indonesia’s pioneering role in the Asian-African Conference, the Non-Aligned Movement, and various important roles in building a new world order through active independent foreign policy. On this excellent occasion, Ibu Megawati also recounted her recent visit to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia,” it added.
Furthermore, according to Hasto, the meeting was also aimed at serving the interests of the people and the nation. It was conducted in the spirit of gotong royong and dialogue in accordance with national culture.
