Prabowo Meets Macron to Discuss Middle East Stability and Palestinian Independence
President Prabowo Subianto met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace. Prabowo addressed the struggle for Palestinian independence. Initially, Prabowo stated that Macron’s leadership is felt on the international stage, noting France’s firm stance on global issues. “President Macron’s leadership is evident on the international stage. He consistently takes positive and firm positions in line with the principles upheld by the French Republic,” Prabowo said during his address to Macron on Thursday, 28 May 2026. Prabowo noted that Indonesia and France share similar positions and have strong bilateral relations. “In several respects, Indonesia and France hold similar views. Our bilateral relations are currently strong, thanks in no small part to President Macron’s direct support,” he said. Prabowo expressed agreement with Macron on Middle East stability, stating that conflicts in the region directly impact global energy conditions. “I agree with President Macron that Middle East stability is crucial and has direct implications for global energy and supply chains. Therefore, peace in the Middle East is a shared interest,” he said. Prabowo highlighted France’s role as a pioneer in urging European and Western nations to support a two-state solution for Palestinian independence. He added that Indonesia shares this stance. “I am also pleased that France is among the pioneers advocating for European and Western nations to support a two-state solution for Palestinian independence. Indonesia remains firm in its view that there can be no Middle East peace without a two-state solution and justice for the Palestinian people,” he said.
