Prabowo Meets Macron to Discuss Defence Equipment to Energy
President Prabowo Subianto visited the Élysée Palace in Paris, France, for a tête-à-tête meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday afternoon, 14 April 2026 local time. This moment was shared by Prabowo via the official Instagram account @presidenrepublikindonesia.
In the meeting, Prabowo and President Macron discussed issues to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several sectors. “Including the procurement of defence equipment and strengthening the defence industry, energy transition and the development of new renewable energy, infrastructure and transportation, to education and the creative economy,” as stated in the caption on Prabowo’s account.
Indonesia regards France as one of its important partners in the European region. Therefore, Indonesia is claimed to continue pushing for sustainable cooperation with France to open up new collaboration opportunities that are increasingly concrete and mutually beneficial for both countries.
Upon arriving at the Élysée Palace, Prabowo was welcomed by the French honour guard, accompanied by musical instruments. President Macron, who had been waiting on the terrace of the Élysée Palace, walked over to greet President Prabowo.
The two appeared to embrace and shake hands before proceeding to the main agenda. On the way into the Élysée Palace, Prabowo and Macron chatted briefly. They posed for a photo right in front of the palace entrance, after which Macron escorted Prabowo into the Les Salon des Portraits room for the tête-à-tête.
It is known that Prabowo Subianto continued his state visit to Paris, France, after conducting intensive meetings with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia. Prabowo arrived in Paris on Monday night, 13 April 2026, at 23.50 local time.
Cabinet Secretary Lieutenant Colonel Teddy Indra Wijaya, in a separate opportunity, stated that the meeting between President Prabowo and President Macron not only focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation but also served as an important momentum for Indonesia to convey its strategic views regarding global dynamics.
“In that meeting, besides strengthening cooperation with the French Government, the President will also convey Indonesia’s position in maintaining stability and promoting world peace,” said Teddy in a written statement on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.
