PRESIDENT Prabowo Subianto met with the Head of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan and other DEN members on Wednesday, 11 March 2026. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the meeting discussed the implications of the conflict in the Middle East region on the global economy and Indonesia.

The Middle East region intensified following US and Israeli military attacks on Iran on 28 February 2026. Iran subsequently launched retaliatory strikes against Israel and neighbouring countries hosting US military bases.

“President Prabowo received the Head and Members of the National Economic Council (DEN) along with several relevant ministers to discuss global economic developments, including potential impacts of Middle East conflict escalation on the world economy and Indonesia, in Jakarta,” Teddy said in a written statement on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Teddy stated that the meeting also discussed national energy supply conditions following the conflict escalation. He noted that domestic energy supplies remain secure. The government is committed to maintaining adequate supplies of petroleum fuel (BBM) and natural gas to meet national requirements.

“The meeting conveyed that BBM and natural gas supplies are in adequate condition,” Teddy said. “The government will continue to monitor developments in global energy prices and prepare mitigation measures to ensure the impact on the State Budget (APBN) remains manageable.”

Besides energy matters, Prabowo also discussed strategic measures to strengthen national economic resilience during the meeting. According to Teddy, one focus that Prabowo highlighted was accelerating the energy self-sufficiency programme as an effort to reduce dependence on global energy supplies.

“The President also emphasised the importance of accelerating energy self-sufficiency and strengthening government digitalisation, including through piloting digitalisation of social assistance distribution, to improve efficiency of government spending,” he said.

According to Teddy, Prabowo instructed all government officials to increase vigilance regarding global dynamics. Anticipation and policy readiness are considered vital to maintain national economic stability amid an uncertain global situation.

“The President instructed all government officials to continue anticipating developments in the global situation and ensure national economic stability remains protected,” Teddy stated.
