Prabowo Meets Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi at Akasaka Palace, Discusses Strategic Cooperation
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi at Akasaka Palace, Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (31/3/2026). The two leaders held a bilateral meeting to discuss strategic cooperation. According to footage from Kompas TV, Prabowo’s arrival was personally welcomed by PM Sanae. They then entered a palace room dominated by white and yellow colours, with red curtains hanging between large windows. Prabowo and Sanae proceeded to the podium of honour. He was seen wearing a neat suit ensemble complete with a striped tie and a black peci cap. Behind them, large flags of Indonesia and Japan were displayed. Subsequently, the Indonesian national anthem was played as part of the state guest honour ceremony, following the troops’ salute. The Japanese national anthem was then performed. In that solemn moment, Prabowo stood in a respectful posture, while Sanae placed her right hand on her chest. After the anthems concluded, the two conducted an inspection of the troops lined up neatly in the room. Several Indonesian ministers accompanied Prabowo, including Foreign Minister Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Danantara CEO Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Previously, the planned meeting had been announced by Foreign Minister Sugiono.
