Prabowo Meets Former Thai PM Thaksin at Kertanegara Residence

President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who served from 2001 to 2006, on Wednesday evening, 8 July 2026. The gathering took place at Prabowo’s private residence on Jalan Kertanegara IV, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

“After seeing off Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Yogyakarta International Airport, President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his family at the President’s private residence in Kertanegara,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in a written statement.

Teddy noted that the meeting was also attended by Thaksin’s daughter, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who served as Thailand’s Prime Minister from 2024 to 2025. According to Teddy, the gathering served as a moment to strengthen the bond between the two figures. The meeting between Prabowo and Thaksin was also described as an effort to reinforce communication networks with global leaders and prominent figures.

“The warm and cordial meeting became a moment to strengthen a long-standing friendship,” Teddy stated. He added, “In a relaxed atmosphere, the President and Thaksin also exchanged views on various strategic global developments and regional dynamics.”

Teddy explained that Thaksin Shinawatra, besides having led Thailand from 2001 to 2006, is currently contributing to Indonesia as a member of the Danantara Advisory Board. The Cabinet Secretary stated that Indonesia will continue to strengthen relations with global figures as part of efforts to expand international cooperation.

“Through meetings such as this, Indonesia continues to strengthen its networks of friendship and communication with world leaders and figures as part of efforts to broaden cooperation and reinforce Indonesia’s position amid global dynamics,” Teddy said.
