Prabowo Meets Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Japan, What Was Discussed?
President Prabowo Subianto paid a courtesy visit to Emperor Naruhito of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on Monday (30/3/2026). This meeting formed one of the main agendas in Prabowo’s official visit to Japan.
According to official statements, Prabowo was personally welcomed by Naruhito upon arrival at the Imperial Palace. The two then proceeded to the Take No Ma room for a joint photo session before continuing with a closed-door meeting.
In this one-on-one discussion, the two heads of state addressed several strategic issues that represent shared interests between Indonesia and Japan. In addition to the formal agenda, the meeting was enlivened by light-hearted conversations that reflected the personal relationship between the two leaders.
Besides meeting Emperor Naruhito, Prabowo also held discussions with Japan’s Crown Prince Fumihito, who is the Emperor’s younger brother.
Following the meeting, President Prabowo, along with Emperor Naruhito and Crown Prince Fumihito, attended a state luncheon held at Rensui North in the Imperial Palace.
The luncheon took place in a warm atmosphere against the backdrop of the palace’s neatly arranged gardens.
Throughout the event, Prabowo was seen smiling several times and engaging in casual conversations. He also expressed admiration for the beauty of the gardens that served as the meeting’s backdrop.
This occasion not only reflects the official relations between the two countries but also demonstrates the personal closeness between the two leaders. It serves as a strong signal that the Indonesia-Japan partnership continues to progress, becoming increasingly close and strategic in the future.
During the meeting, the President was accompanied by Ragowo Hediprasetyo (Didit), Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
